These reactions are fairly common considering the 50 million Americans experiencing them each year. But we’re not entirely defenseless against allergies. Through vitamins and medications available in a pharmacy in Seminole, we can successfully treat allergic reactions safely and easily.

Substances known as allergens trigger your allergic reaction. These substances are relatively harmless but cause your immune system to overreact. A lot of allergic reactions include sneezing, rashes, coughing, and itching. These seem to be minor issues but greatly affect how you function for the day.

But medications, such as antihistamines, help you regulate your allergic reaction. Most are available over the counter in a compounding pharmacy in Seminole, while some need prescriptions from your doctor. Antihistamines have plenty of variations and are safe to use. You may need to try several before knowing which works best or your allergies.

There are also fatal allergic reactions. Symptoms may include lightheadedness, breathing difficulties, confusion, and even loss of consciousness. This is otherwise known as anaphylaxis. For cases like this, make sure to have adrenaline auto-injectors prepared. This helps relieve the reaction while waiting for complete medical attention.

There is no cure for allergic reactions. But with effective medications and adequate mindfulness, we can successfully lead happy lives even with allergies.

Reading glasses are some of the non-medicinal products that you can purchase from a pharmacy in Seminole like Longwood Pharmacy. Unlike vision correcting glasses, most of these devices do not require a prescription from an eye doctor to purchase. You could consider them as over-the-counter eye glasses if you’d like.

Aside from that, there are many other fun facts that you might want to know about reading glasses. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

  • First, reading glasses are designed to improve your close-up vision. As we age, our eyes’ ability to focus on objects that require short-range vision diminishes. This condition is called presbyopia and is a normal development especially in people who are above 40 years of age. By this time, we have difficulty in clearly distinguishing small text, for instance. This is when you’d need to buy reading glasses.
  • Second, reading glasses that you can purchase over-the-counter at a low-cost pharmacy in Seminole County are not meant to be worn for extended periods. You’d need to take them off after a few hours of reading, to allow your eyes to refocus and maintain their farsightedness.
  • Third fact – there are prescription reading glasses! Over-the-counter reading glasses are only good for those with equal vision in both eyes. For those that have vision problems like astigmatism and myopia, you’d need the help of your ophthalmologist to determine the right pair of reading glasses for you.

Come on over and visit us. We’re also a compounding pharmacy in Seminole, which means we can create medicines that are best suited for your needs.

Why Was Temafloxacin Pulled From the Market? https://www.longwoodpharmacy.com/why-was-temafloxacin-pulled-from-the-market Wed, 07 Apr 2021 08:53:41 +0000 https://www.longwoodpharmacy.com/?p=1141 Continue reading ]]> why-was-temafloxacin-pulled-from-the-market

Temafloxacin was an antibiotic that was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1992. However, just four months after it was approved for commercial use, the FDA reversed its decision and pulled the drug from the market.

This means that you can no longer any pharmacy in Seminole carrying this medicine. It’s been gone from the market for nearly 30 years.

Temafloxacin was a promising drug. It was developed for use in the treatment of lower respiratory tract and skin infections, as well as urinary and genital tract infections. It was easily absorbed by the body, which means it had the potential to be more effective than other similar antibiotics like ciprofloxacin.

With such an excellent performance, what made the FDA decide to disallow any low-cost pharmacy in Seminole County from selling the antibiotic?

In the four months that the medicine was available in the market, there were about 100 cases in the United States that resulted in severe allergic reactions. Some patients also developed hemolytic anemia, a condition where the body’s red blood cells are depleted fast.

Sadly, three patients had become fatalities due to their severe reactions to the drug. Abbott Laboratories made the voluntary decision to have the FDA remove the drug from the market, and the rest is history.

If you need the help of a compounding pharmacy in Seminole, don’t hesitate to approach us at Longwood Pharmacy. We’re more than happy to help you.

Why Was Vicodin Reformulated? https://www.longwoodpharmacy.com/why-was-vicodin-reformulated Wed, 03 Mar 2021 07:58:20 +0000 https://www.longwoodpharmacy.com/?p=1134 Continue reading ]]> why-was-vicodin-reformulated

One of the most popular prescription drugs in the previous decade for painkilling is Vicodin. It was featured in the TV series House, where the eponymous main character Dr. Gregory House uses the medicine to deal with the pain in his leg.

However, in 2009, an advisory panel in the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration recommended that Vicodin and a similar drug, Percocet, be banned and taken off the market. If this had pushed through, then Vicodin would no longer be available from any pharmacy in Seminole or any city in the United States, in general.

What happened, however, is that the FDA asked manufacturers of Vicodin and Percocet to lower the amount of acetaminophen in the compounding of their medicine. The FDA made this decision because of the observed toxicity of the acetaminophen component in the mix. In other words, acetaminophen has been observed to be very toxic to the liver, with life-threatening effects.

The order also caused Vicodin or hydrocodone/acetaminophen to become a generic product. However, it is still prescription-only because of the opioid component of the medicine, which can have drastic and addictive effects on the user.

You can buy hydrocodone/acetaminophen as a lower-cost, generic medicine from a low-cost pharmacy in Seminole County, but you’d still need a prescription in order to do so.

First, read the label of the medicine. The label, in addition to giving information about the drug, will also show you the proper dosage when self-medicating. Follow these instructions to the dot, including information on how long the treatment should be undertaken and how often to take the medicine.

Second, when having your medicines mixed by a compounding pharmacy in Seminole, make sure to ask the pharmacist for the proper dosage. Better yet, write it down so you won’t forget.

Third, if you are feeling several symptoms, it’s actually best to first visit a doctor and get a prescription. Self-medicating is actually dangerous when you’re medicating for the wrong ailment. Your doctor will be able to correctly diagnose you and recommend you the right medicines to drink.
